Google Home is finally getting the option to add reminders. I don’t have a Google Home yet, but I was under the impression that you could set reminders with it! Well, looks like I was wrong.
The new feature first showed up on a Google Help Center article, explaining how to add and manage reminders using Google Home. According to this article,
You can set, ask about, and delete reminders on Google Home. Notifications will appear on Google Home and your phone at the time you set. Location reminders are coming soon.
This feature is available in English in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada.
So, if you are using Google Home in any language other than English, you will have to wait a little longer. For English users, this feature is already live. This feature will work even if you have multiple users using the same Home device, provided all these users have linked their Google account to Home.
Reminders that you create will show up under “Your stuff” on Google Assistant. I tested this using Google Assistant on my Pixel phone, and the reminders was available on Inbox too.
When you have an upcoming reminder, Google Home will attract your attention using those LED lights. You can listen to your upcoming reminders using one of these voice commands:
- “Ok Google, what’s up?”
- “Ok, Google, what are my notifications?”
- “Ok Google, what are my reminders?”
The help article says that “After your Assistant reads your reminder, it will be marked as read.” I am not quite sure that means, marking the reminder as “done”. That needs some testing.
