How to Manage Purchases Using Google Home

Google recently added the ability to make purchases using the Assistant. This page is your guide to managing purchases via Google Home. Let’s dive in.

Setting Up Payment and Delivery Address

Before you can make a purchase using Google Home, you need to set up your payment method and delivery address. Here is how to do this. If you are doing this for the first time, you will get a guided screen. Simply follow the prompts to complete the setup. If you have already done this and want to change the address, follow these steps:

  1. On your phone, touch & hold the Home button.
  2. Tap the briefcase icon on the top right corner and then tap More > Settings > Payments.
  3. From this page, tap Payment method and Delivery address to select or add a card and set delivery address.

Approve Purchases Using Fingerprint or Google Account Password

The ability to make purchases with your voice is a huge convenience. At the same time, this has its own challenges. One of them is security. Google offers a couple of options to put an extra check in place. You can approve purchases either using your fingerprint on the phone or by entering your Google account password.

  1. Go to Assistant Settings on your phone
  2. Go to Purchases
  3. Choose Always require confirmation or Don’t require confirmation.

You can either approve purchases using fingerprint or Google account password. If you enable approvals but don’t use your fingerprint, you’ll be asked to approve purchases by entering your Google Account password.

To enable or disable fingerprint approvals:

  1. Go to Assistant Settings on your phone
  2. Go to Settings > Payments
  3. Find Purchase approvals.
  4. Turn Use fingerprint to confirm on or off.

Completely Disable Assistant Payments

What if you don’t want to use Assistant to make payments? You can completely disable this feature from Settings:

  1. Go to Google Assistant Settings
  2. Tap Payments.
  3. On the Payments screen, turn Pay with your Assistant on or off.

This should disable Assistant payments on your account.
